What is EXIF metadata and why remove it?

EXIF is hidden data inside photos: GPS coordinates of where you took them, your phone model, the exact timestamp. Before sharing photos publicly, removing it protects your location and privacy.

Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?

The image is re-encoded once at high quality (92), which is visually indistinguishable from the original. All metadata — including GPS — is gone afterwards, because re-encoding writes a clean file.
